Victor's Story

Here at MAM we are lucky to have such wonderful students that are always willing to learn and give back to the community.

One of our wonderful students, Victor Magdaleno, is always looking for ways to help our community. He is originally from Bilbao, Spain. Last year, he moved here from Spain during a very difficult time in their economy.  He came to the U.S. for a new start and better opportunities.  He has been working very hard in his classes to learn English, a necessity for everyday living and to get a good job. Victor explains, “Coming to the United States, everyone needs to learn English to communicate well with others and to feel more included in society.   It has been a real challenge, but I am very proud of where I stand today from six months ago.”   He is currently taking a Level 1 class at MAM, and is being tutored twice a week by two of his volunteer teachers.

Victor is very grateful for MAM giving him the opportunity to learn English. He explains, “My experience with MAM has been such a great one. I am truly amazed by the hospitality and the great care MAM has for all of their clients. When it comes to helping people, MAM doesn’t care about race, color or gender.”  He also gives back to the community by volunteering with our Custodian, Luis. Victor helps Luis every Friday for four hours to clean our facility, and if you see him around he is always in such a good mood!   His goals in life are to be financially stable, learn English very well, and to be able to help others just as he has been helped by MAM.   We are proud to have Victor in our ESL program and are extremely thankful for his hardworking volunteer teachers!
