Roberto's Story

In our ESL classes, at MAM and at our other 4 offsite locations, there is a great diversity among our students. We have students from each corner of the world: China, Vietnam, Spain, Iran, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, and many more countries. Each of them are very eager to learn English and submerge into the American culture.

One of our students, Roberto, has even registered to take 3 classes! He has done so in order to maximize his English practice throughout the week.  He is taking morning classes at both MAM (Tuesday/Thursday) and John Knox Presbyterian Church (Monday/Wednesday), and also evening classes at Fair Haven United Methodist Church (Tuesday/Thursday). This motivated student started in Level 1 and has now moved all the way up to Level 3. Why is he so committed to learn English? He wants to be successful in the workplace and in our community. He has dreams of owning his own air conditioning company, and to be able to communicate with ALL of his clients. Roberto knows these classes are making a difference in his life. He goes onto say, “English classes have helped me in everyday life, it has made my life so much easier. Now I’m able to really communicate with others.”

Roberto is originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He is a great student and the teachers really enjoy having him in class. He is a very hard worker, and is always doing his best to learn more vocabulary and grammar.
